Drainage & Wastewater Management Plan

We’re in the process of developing our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan. This will set out how we intend to maintain a resilient drainage and wastewater system for the North West over the next 25-year planning period from 2025 to 2050 and beyond.

We are committed to working with a diverse range of stakeholders who can challenge and contribute ideas as the plan is developed.

The plan assesses anticipated potential future risks to the resilience of the drainage and wastewater system and considers options to mitigate current and modelled future risks. We are seeking to identify options that relate to the management of surface water, catchment water quality, WwTW and network capacity and demand.

We already have some of our own options but are really keen to hear from other organisations. We’d like to hear from you to identify any potential alternative options that you could deliver and we will assess whether they can be implemented to mitigate the risks posed for future of the North West’s drainage and wastewater system.

Surface water management, catchment management measures and third-party delivery measures options

We are looking to explore and consider both supply-side and demand-side options:

  • measures related to removal of surface water inputs to the sewer network e.g., surface water attenuation, SuDS, natural flood management;
  • measures involving working with partners to manage risk to water quality through interventions on catchment land e.g., diffuse nutrient management to contribute to offsetting;
  • measures which involve managing demand from domestic or business customers;
  • measures involving engineered solutions to improve drainage and/or water quality e.g. through managing infiltration or upsizing assets.

Who do we want to hear from?

As part of this process, we’re keen to hear from organisations or individuals who think they may be able to develop and deliver potential options. This could include:

  • Businesses
  • Developers
  • Trusts/NGOs
  • Agriculture
  • Statutory bodies
  • Other (including landowners, season event organisers etc.)

Stakeholders may offer land ownership / land use; design; delivery; operation of options submitted.

Did you miss our webinar?

We held a webinar event on Wednesday 29 September 2021 where our team provided more information about the options we are currently exploring and the process for submitting your own.

If you weren’t able to join you can download our presentation slides and other useful documents below:

Submit your options

If you know of a supply or demand side option then please let us know. You can submit your options for consideration by completing this feedback form.

Continue the discussion

Over the next few months we will be engaging with stakeholders across the North West. We will be using consultations pages to discuss key topics within forums.
